Extracts from War Diaries

A fellow 529th researcher, Julie sent me some extracts from the War Diaries Held at Kew National Archives, she was looking for her great grandfather who also served in the 529th and was also killed in action.

On reading through the pages I found that grandad was wounded on the 12th May 1917, but remained on duty.

On the night of the 16/17th June, 3 sections of the 529th were working on a connecting trench to Hook Trench when they came under heavy attack at about 12-30am, the bombardment lasted until 3-00am. The 529th put down their tools and joined the 76th Inf. Brigade to successfully resist the attack. The 529th lost 1 officer and 11 other ranks. Of which grandad was one.
