Grandad's name was Frederick Burden, he was born in Kingston upon Hull on the 14th September 1886, leaving school at 13 he trained as a plumber. He died in France in the First World War.

Little was known of grandad until the mid 1990's when my wife Pauline and I decided with encouragement from Pauline's sister(Elaine) and her husband(Andy) to investigate further.

Elaine and Andy have an interest in militeria and the
First World War, and invited us to accompany them
on one of their trips to the WW1 battlefields of France.

My Mother(Dorothy) spoke very little of her father, she
either did not know much or she wanted to keep quiet,
she was only five when her father died.
